Custer State Park

Custer State Park holds 71,000 acres of beautiful land and is home to an endless supply of world class granite. These granite formations hold some of the best rock climbing in the United States. Custer State Park was the first state park in South Dakota, and to this day remains the largest state park. Custer State Park is loaded with hiking trails, scenic drives, and wildlife.

Devils Tower National Monument

Devils Tower, the nation’s first national monument, is located just outside of Hulett, Wyoming. Devils Tower is a sacred landmark to many Native American Tribes, and thus deserves high respect when visiting and climbing. Devils Tower was formed from magma cooling under the surface of the Earth, as the soil eroded away, it left behind Devils Tower. The tower boasts some of the greatest crack climbing in the world and is home to over 140 different climbing routes.

Mount Rushmore National Memorial

Mount Rushmore is arguably one of the most visited national parks in the country. The granite carving houses the faces of past presidents; George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Aside from the tourist attraction of the park, it is also home to 1,278 acres of beautiful forest, loaded with some of the best granite rock climbing in the country.

Palisades State Park

Palisades State Park, located just north of Sioux Falls, South Dakota is a truly beautiful destination. Palisades is home to Split Rock Creek, which flows through the middle of the park, and forms vertical cliffs on either side. These cliffs, made of Sioux Quartzite, are home to the best rock climbing in Eastern South Dakota.

Great. Fabulous. Epic. Fantastic. All the best adjectives to describe the experience we had! Co-owner Jeff, Chris S and Shankar made our first climbing adventure the best it could have been! All 9 of us, ranging in age from 7-45, were total rock climbing newbs but we never felt like it! The whole crew at Sylvan Rocks set about to ensure that we all felt secure and ready to rock. We did the 6HR group climb at Custer State Park/Sylvan Lake. After ample time to practice, we split into 3 groups by ability and hit the big ones (not that the "little" ones were any joke though 😅 🙃) Rock climbing was never, ever on any bucket list of mine but I positively can tell you, each and every one of us will be back! Definitely a highlight of our Black Hills trip!!!! Thanks again from our whole crew!! August 2021.

Our family loved our first time rock climbing. Lindsay our guide was amazing kept all four kids (and mom and dad) encouraged and challenged at their own levels with ages ranging from 9 to 18. Never concerned with safety for a moment with Sylvan Rocks and Lindsay as our guide. Amazing first climbing experience. Thank you!

Our entire family had an amazing experience with our guides and developed a love for rock climbing! We were especially impressed with how fun and interactive James was with our 6-year-old who ended up climbing like the adults to one of the top rocks at the end of her experience. Thank you so much for making this the highlight of our vacation!
