Matt Scherer

Matt fell in love with climbing after a guided trip up the Grand Teton at the age of 15. Since that trip he has pursued a life of climbing and adventure. Growing up climbing in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Matt amassed a wealth of knowledge about the area and the history. In the off season you can find Matt on a sandy big-wall in Zion, a windy desert tower or an extremely windy peak in Patagonia. Matt took his love for rock climbing, and decided to turn it into a career when he began guiding for Sylvan Rocks in 2024. Climbing is Matt’s passion, but the friendships, memories, and sleeping in the dirt keep the fire burning strong.

What a fantastic morning!! Our family of 4 (two 40 something parents, 9 and 12 year old kids) did the 4 hr trip at Sylvan Lake and everyone had a blast. The guides seemed to have the perfect balance of encouragement, teaching, and gently nudging each of us out of our comfort zones. Highly recommend if you have adventurous, fearless kids.
