Brandon Emery

Brandon Emery | Co-Owner

Having grown up in Rapid City, Brandon has spent a considerable amount of time tromping and exploring in the Black Hills. Brandon learned to climb in the Needles back in 2011, and began his guiding career at Sylvan Rocks in 2018.

Brandon recently graduated from the University of Wyoming with a BS in Psychology and minors in Outdoor Leadership, Environment/Natural Resources and Sociology. Post graduation, Brandon returned to the Black Hills in the spring of 2020 to continue guiding, and soon after found himself fulfilling his lifelong dream of managing Sylvan Rocks.

In the winter you might find him carving turns on the ski slopes or climbing ice around the Hills. When not climbing or skiing, he also enjoys hunting, cooking, and going to concerts. You may even find him serving you a gourmet dinner at Skogen Kitchen in Custer!

Brandon was our guide for the day. We chose the 4 hour climbing adventure and was absolutely perfect for us. My husband and I don't have a lot of experience with climbing and Brandon did a fantastic job at explaining everything. He talked us through every step of the way and felt safe. He went the extra mile with us and greatly appreciate it! Would go again for sure. Thanks so much!!

We chose to rock climb as a family of four last minute and we're so glad we did. It was one of the highlights of our South Dakota trip. Daryl found us a guide who was personable and patient. My 5 and 7 year old were able to climb 15 and 30 foot cliffs and my wife and I found the climbs exhilarating and fun. The price was reasonable and it fit well into a day trip to Custer State Park.

Great experience! My wife and I have not done any outdoor climbing, but were willing to be challenged! We started on a fun climb up Beer and Pretzels overlooking Sylvan Lake! Jeff did a great job at understanding our skill levels and accommodating climbs to both push us, allow us to learn, and most of all enjoy our time! I would definitely recommend this experience. We are excited to climb more now that we have some skills to work with and are excited to climb again when we visit the Black Hills next time. Big thanks again to Jeff for being so professional, knowledgeable, and answering all our questions. Get out there and climb some crystals in the beautiful Black Hills!! :).
