Many people believe that you need to have super strength and be extra fit to enjoy rock climbing. Reality is, that rock climbing is something that anyone can enjoy outdoors with friends and family at their own level.  You don’t even need to be able to do a pull up.

The granite here in the Black Hills generally leans in enough that that your weight stays on your rock climbing shoe covered feet. With proper technique, and a little determination, you will be amazed what you can get up. As the climbing routes get harder and more vertical, the climbing holds shrink, and you have to pull more with your arms. If you have ANY question about your physical condition with regards to climbing, please seek a medical doctor's opinion prior to arrival. Most of the climbing here is between 5500 and 7000 feet in elevation, while Devils Tower starts at about 4500 feet (it’s 700 feet tall). So you may feel a little short of breath if you are coming up from lower elevations, but after spending a day or 2 here your body will produce more red blood cells and adjust to the mount climbing elevation.
