Quick Beam, 5.5 in Middle Earth - Custer State Park Climbing
From the parking lot in front of the Sylvan Lake General Store, hike to the brown Custer State Park Cabin and walk down the Sunday Gulch Hiking trail to a point where it takes a hard left turn (look for the blue arrows). At this point leave the Sunday Gulch trail and hike straight out across the hill to the saddle near Riddle. Turn left and head uphill into
the nearest gully staying to your right. Quick Beam starts on the rock
mass to your right near the crest of the gully at the narrowest spot.
Although this route has very enjoyable climbing on large crystals there
are only 2 bolts over a span of about 80 feet. The top of the route is
run-out for at least 40 feet, and a fall would result in very serious
consequences. IF you intend to lead it make sure it is well with in your outdoor climbing ability, and watch for loose rock. One rope rappel from a chain anchor. A top rope can be set up from this anchor.
Gear: Quickdraws.
Warning: Rock Climbing can be dangerous. Use this information at your own risk.
