Sylvan Lake Campground is the best place I can think of to spend a few nights camping among the pines that make up the Black Hills forest. Its right on Needles Highway, close to Sylvan Lake so you can swim and fish, the trail head to Harney Peak and Little Devils Tower is nearby for great hiking. There are modern showers and bathrooms, great sites, and lots of rocks to climb. What more could you ask for on your Black Hills Vacation. Custer State Park has lots of great campgrounds, but this is clearly my favorite. Lots of shade and cool mountain nights keep things comfortable during the summer heat - bring your long sleeves any time of year, and plan to stay close to the campfire, as warm days can be followed by cool nights when you are staying in the mountains.
