Legion Lake is a great place to go for a nice cool swim on a hot summer day. Because the lake is spring fed, it is one of the coolest lakes in Custer State Park. While the other lakes get warm by August, Legion Lake stays comfortable for swimming. The beach is great...I've heard that other lakes are better for fishing, but that could just be a fish story. There are paddle boats to rent and the whole family will enjoy staying at the lodge or in a cabin surrounded by the Black Hills National Forest. Its connected to the town of Custer by the Mickelson Trail, so you can walk or bike on the paved trail while you are there, or if you are staying in Custer you can bike out, take a swim and be back by breakfast.
