Ten Pins rock formations are along Needles Highway in Custer State Park, SD.

The Ten Pins are exactly what their name implies. Ten beautiful Spires made of granite. The designers of the Needles Highway in Custer State Park showcased them by running the road right at their bases. Pete Cleveland made Harry Pin and Super Pin (a very beautiful spire) famous by putting up first ascents on them in wild style. Some say that the route taken on his first ascent of Super Pin has never been repeated (its a solo) without a fall. Henry Barber established a route on Super Pin that is most commonly taken these days, but it is still a true adventure and should be attempted only by those who really know what they are getting themselves into.

Park at the Cathedral Spires lot and hike back up the road to the 10 pins or there is room for a few cars on the outside of the switchback above the very recognizable rocks.
