If you hike Harney Peak and look back down towards the trail head you cannot see Sylvan Lake, but the large "breadloaf" shaped granite masses are Inner and Outer outlet. To get to them from the parking lot in front of the Sylvan Lake general store, hike north towards the dam that forms the lake. Near the dam follow the hiking trail through the tunnel formed by a massive chockstone. Once through there, follow the trail uphill to the left. You will be on the Sunday Gulch trail and once you get to the brown Custer State Park employee cabin you are on the edge of the Outlets. This point is where most of the climbing route descriptions start from. Hike down the road (past ruins of an old cabin) and follow the directions below to arrive at the base of the climbing routes.
